IIM Ahmedabad Records Increase in Number of Women Graduates
- The FPM batch 2018 at the IIM Ahmedabad has a female to male ratio of 50:50 for the first time.
- The achievement shows that women representation at IIM Ahmedabad has shown a sharp increase.
TheIndian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, is moving closer togender diversitywith each passing year. TheFellow Programme in Management (FPM)batch that will be graduating this year is an example of the institute’s gender equity and their efforts in maintaining a balance between number of male and female taker.
TheFPM class of 2018comprises eight boys and eight girls, setting an example of gender diversity amongst the premier management institutes. The female to male ratio for the FPM batch of 2017 atIIM Ahmedabadwas 25:75, whereas, in 2016 there were 10% less female students than in 2017.

The shift from this to a 50:50 female to male ration in theFPM batchof IIM Ahmedabad for the graduating batch is quite commendable. Chairperson of the FPM programme at IIM Ahmedabad, said that it is quite evident from the gender ratio that the number of female candidates in specializedmanagement educationare rising atIIM-A.
Amarketingstudent of the FPM programme, Biswajita Parida, said that research implies a significant difference between the brains of males and females in terms of learning, processing information, dealing with emotions, multi-tasking, perception andmemory abilities. Parida added that due to this reason, male and female students pursuing management must collectively brainstorm to bring about wholesome results that will benefit all.

Another student from FPMEconomics, P K V Kishan, said that the intrinsic value of both males and females will be improved if there is a balanced ratio during enrollment as well as graduation. He also added that the gender ration in the FPM batch is proof that under-represented gender no longer applies in this scenario.
