Professor G Mugesh of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has been named among the 6 winners, of the annual Infosys Science awards 2019 for Physical Sciences. He is being conferred the honour for his remarkable work in the ‘Chemical Synthesis of Small Molecules & Nano-Materials for Biomedical Applications’ as informed by the software major.

Among the other winners, there is Professor Sunita Sarawagi of Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Bombay for her research on ‘data mining, databases, machine learning & natural language processing.’ Professor Sarawagi is the chair-professor of IITB’s Computer Science and Engineering Department. Work on ‘Pre-modern South India’ by Professor Manu V Devadevan also received the award this year. Professor Devadevan is the assistant professor of IIT Mandi’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

One of the most remarkable works that is being awarded in this year’s Infosys Science Awards, is Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad’s Chief Scientist Manjula Reddy’s research work on ‘Structure of Bacterial Cell Walls.’

Anthropology professor Anand Pandian of John Hopkins' Krieger School of Arts and Sciences has been awarded for his solution finding work on ‘Ethics, Selfhood and Creative Process.’

Professor Siddhartha Mishra of Mathematics at Swiss University ETH Zurich has been nominated for his contribution to the field of applied mathematics.

The award given to these eminent people in various sectors of science will enrich and strengthen the research environment. The Indian global tech giant Infosys in a statement has said that the prize will carry a citation, a gold medal and a purse with 1 lakh dollars which is equivalent to Rs. 71 lakh.
