IIT Bombay to Launch B.Sc in Economics this Year

In the latest development, Indian institute of Technology, Bombay is planning to launch an undergraduate course from July 2017. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of IIT Bombay is going to launch B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) in Economics. The main objective of the programme is to make students professionals in public policy, business, industrial houses, development administration, government or semi-government agencies and banks. Through this programme, the students will become analyst or professionals in decision-making in these fields.

HOD of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mr. Parthasarathy revealed that many organisations are demanding graduates with various skills and capabilities in Economics. The B.Sc programme in Economics will equip the students with required knowledge and skills. The programme will make the students maintain the balance between enterprises, economics, science and technology. The programme will also develop multi-disciplinary skills among the students in applied economic analysis and efficient decision making.

Director of IIT Bombay, Mr. Devang Khakar revealed that the institute would provide high-quality education with a rigorous curriculum. However, the institute will offer a wide range of electives in the course. The programme will prepare the students to figure out solutions to various problems faced by national and global economic environments.

Giving details about the admission process, Director of IIT Bombay said that the candidates with valid JEE Advanced 2017 score can seek admission to B.Sc Economics programme. This year, the institute is offering a total number of 26 seats. Depending upon the response, the institute may increase the intake in the coming years.
