IIT Gandhinagar Organizes India's First Drone Racing Event as a part of 'Amalthea 2016'
IIT Gandhinagar, organized country's first drone racing competition in its recently held annual technical festival event Amalthea.
IIT Gandhinagar, organized country's first drone racing competition in its recently held annual technical festival event Amalthea, in association with Indian Drone Racing League (IDRL).

The first three winners were from Bangalore team while the fourth winner was from the Assam team. These winners were -
- Sangani
- Siddharth Kumanduri
- Manjunath M.
- Ken Kwang
Drone enthusiasts from across India gathered at the campus of the institute to witness the event. A large group of professional pilots that practice `first-person view' (FPV) drone racing was formed for the event. Some of these pilots have around 8 years of experience of flying quadcopters. These quadcopters have a transmitter and send video captured by cameras attached to the quadcopters over the radio waves to the pilot's glasses.
About IIT Gandhinagar:
Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar is one of the eight new IITs of India established by the central Government. The Institute started its operation from the temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College and was mentored by IIT Bombay. The institute opened with three branches of study like -
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering

The permanent campus of IIT Gandhinagar on the banks of the Sabarmati River near Palaj village is under construction and near completion. The insitute is ranked 8th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), published by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
IIT Gandhinagar is managed by a Board of Governors. The board comprises of researchers, academicians, administrators and industrial leaders.
Admission to IIT Gandhinagar is done through the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE/ JEE Advanced). It also offers Master and Ph.D. studies in various fields in sciences and humanities, engineering, and social sciences.
