IIT Roorkee Announces Science and Technology Research Awards
IIT Roorkee has announced its Research Awards for 2017 and 2019 in the field of Science and Technology.
Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Roorkee has announced its research awards for 2017 and 2018 in the field of Science and Technology. The institute has recently issued a notification regarding the same.
The award named ‘Khosla National Award’ is given each year for contribution in different streams of science, technology and design. There are two recipients of the awards this year including Prof Suvendra Nath Bhattacharyya, who is the head of the Molecular Genetics Division of CSIR (Indian Institute of Chemical Biology) and Prof Neelesh B Mehta of IISc Bangalore.
Mr Bhattacharyaa will be conferred the award for his contributions in understanding methods of ‘microRNA activity modulation in mammalian cancer and immune cells.’ He will be given the IIT-R’s Prestigious Khosla National Award for Science/Management/HSS 2018.
On the other hand, Professor Neelesh B Mehta will be honoured for his contributions in ‘modelling, analysis, and design of advanced wireless communication systems.’ He will be conferred the award for the engineering stream.
The Khosla National Award is given each year and it comes with a 5 lakh prize amount. Another prestigious award named Gopal Ranjan Technology Award 2018 selected Mr. Narayan Venkatesh Nayak who is the principal advisor of Gammon India Ltd. He is being awarded for developing high-speed jet fighters and their usage, based in India. He used them in a number of projects. One of his best achievements will be that he introduced Bentonite Slurry in India.
The Virendranath Malti Mital award 2018 is announced to confer to Mr Professor P Gopinath who is a professor in the Department of Biotechnology in IIT Roorkee itself. His group developed a 4D dynamic cell-culture apparatus and hybrid multi-layered nano-fibrous scaffold.

IIT Kharagpur’s Chemical Engineering Professor Mr Sirshendu De will also receive the Khosla National Award (for the year 2017) for his development of efficient technology and methods to separate arsenic from groundwater. He did this using the laterite soil which is a natural substance and very commonly found in India.
The Virendranath Malti Mittal Award (For the Year 2017) will be given to Prof Tarun Gupta from the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Kanpur.for his development of a Submicron Aerosol Sampler. A company named Envirotech Instruments Pvt Ltd has commercialised his invention which is being sold in the market as PM1 Sampler with approval from the central pollution control board (CPCB).

Mr. Ajit K Chaturvedi, the respected director of IIT Roorkee said that the institute always supports research and innovation and promotes work for excellence in the country. These awards are just a note to appreciate and motivate researchers.
