Recently, MHRD has released the list of six institutes that are eligible for Institute of Eminence (IoE) status. IIT Delhi was also one of the public institutes that featured in the list. IoE status enables the institutes to work towards internationalisation of education. Under the IoE scheme, the selected institutes will have greater autonomy in decision-making.

On the other hand, these institutes will also receive a grant of Rs. 1,000 crore over the next five years for developing academic landscape. IoE status will further help the institutes to make an impact in global rankings.

IIT Delhi has extensive plans to improve the functioning of the institute. Director of IIT Delhi, Mr. Ramgopal Rao gave details about the reformative measures introduced in the premier institute.

At present, over 60% students at IIT Delhi are enrolled in PG courses. The institute is planning to hike fees for PG courses. Already, the fee structure for two courses including executive M.Tech and sponsored Ph.D has been revised, he added.

IIT Delhi is also planning to increase the enrolment of international students from 1% to 25%. The major focus is to attract foreign students from ASEAN, SAARC, Gulf and African nations. At present, the institute has seats that are enough only for Indian students. If the institute wants to increase the enrolment of foreign students, it has to create supernumerary seats and improve infrastructure & hostel facilities.
