National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has decided in a meeting that the higher educational institutions with three consecutive NAAC high grades will have a chance to get a two-year extension in terms of accreditation. The council has further indicated that two years will be extended to those institutes, i.e., five years to seven years, which secure higher grade for three consecutive cycles.

The Council further decided that if an institute applies for reaccreditation within the period of six months before the end of the cycle of accreditation, the gap between two consecutive accreditations will be taken into consideration and approval will be given. On the other hand, if any other institute does not apply for reaccreditation within the stipulated period, the maximum period for the approval period will be one year.

As per NAAC guidelines, A++ and A+ are the highest grades, and the institutes which secure these grades for three consecutive cycles will have NAAC extension for two years.

Director of NAAC, Mr. D.P Singh revealed that the high standards and quality of education in institutes which bagged high grades are the reasons for extending the accreditation period. The decision taken by NAAC will urge these institutes to enhance their quality of education. The NAAC extension will encourage and motivate the top performing institutes to focus more on new parameters adopted by NAAC in June 2016.

NAAC has also worked on different modalities for electronic accreditation and assessment through which higher educational institutes that apply for the second and third cycle of NAAC accreditation will be considered for electronic assessment and accreditation.
