The Book Festival Society, Vijayawada organised a panel discussion on 'IT & IoT opportunities for youth' on January 3, 2017, at PWD Grounds, Vijayawada as a part of the Book Festival. Students from Andhra Loyola College and K.L University participated in the meet. The discussions were held on both positives and negatives of IoT. The students also took part in interactions and raised various questions for the experts to answer and clarify.

On this occasion, Srikanth Srinivasan, Regional Head of Nasscom revealed that Internet of Things or IoT is impacting technology in a tremendous way and it is expected that 50 billion devices or things will be connected to the Internet by the year 2020. Students need to aim for higher order jobs as most of the mundane jobs are being washed out due to the automation of major industries. Therefore, Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Computing are the future, and there is a lot that students need to learn in these areas.

V. Srinivasa Rao, CMD and Chief Digital Consultant explained that students need to have four major components for success, i.e., action, ability, attitude and aspiration. He further added that most of the people are depending on technology which has resulted in the decline of patience levels in humans. Keeping that in view, IoT is responsible for changing the world. He indicated that the number of humans connected to the Intenet would exceed the number of things that are connected to it. He advised the youth to have cognitive flexibility so that they can adopt new technologies.

Ramakrishna, MD of Efftronics mentioned that the world and job opportunities are being disrupted as billions of things are connected to the Internet. He further explained that things could communicate, act, analyse and sense with the help of IoT which will further lead to the decline in the number of job opportunities due to automation.

O. Naresh Kumar, Director of AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry, advised the students to learn basic internet related skills. He stated that today's youth are addicted to technology, and it is time for them to come out of it.
