A. S. Kiran Kumar, the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, also known as ISRO inaugurated the Advanced GNSS Research Laboratory (AGRL) at Osmania University College of Engineering in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering on Thursday, 27th April 2017.

Research projects

This laboratory was set up to carry out research projects for B.E., M.E. and Ph.D. students and was established under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ahmedabad and University College of Engineering with the Space Applications Centre or SAC.

Technical aspects

Mr. Kiran Kumar spoke about the different technical aspects related to NavIC Satellite Navigation System of India, further asking the faculty and students to carry out research work on the development of various modules using IRNSS, kinematic applications, work related to multi-constellation, atmospheric effects, differential corrections, innovative applications and fisheries applications for the layman.

The Indian Space Research Organisation is the space agency of the Indian Government that is headquartered in the city of Bengaluru. It was established in the year 1969, ISRO replaced the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) formed in 1962 by the efforts of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Vikram Sarabhai., his close friend and also a scientist.

Thus, establishing the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO initialized the space activities in India. It is managed and led by the Department of Space, which is suppose to report to the Prime Minister of the country. Its prime purpose is to harness space technology for the development of the nation while studying space science research and planetary exploration.
