Jamia Millia Islamia Cancels Offline Exams for Final Year Students

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)has decided to cancel the pen-and-paper or offline exams for its final year students due to a constant rise in the number of Coronavirus cases in the national capital. The university had earlier announced that it would conduct the exams in offline mode only if the COVID-19 situation improved. The standing Academic Council has, however, decided not to conduct offline exams as several COVID-19 cases are being reported in the city every day.

The Committee further announced that the conduct of exams in offline mode is not feasible which may also endanger the students from other parts of the country. All the final-year undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students will be assessed through online exams.

Professors may use modes such as dissertations, assignments or objective questions to evaluate students. Online practical exams may be conducted for students of the intermediate semester/year via interviews, interaction or viva voce. All the teachers are required to upload marks on the university portal by June 20, 2020.

A senior official of the university has also added that both online and offline modes will be considered for evaluation. Quoting UGC regulations, the university said that no student will be allowed to request for re-evaluation or redressal.

Students who could not sit for their papers held in December 2019 and February 2020 due to walkout or boycott may also take a special examination along with compartment exams which will be conducted in September and October 2020.
