Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar laid emphasis on improving learning outcomes and quality education at the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meeting on October 25, 2016. Javadekar chaired the meeting, and it was attended by education ministers of 21 states, representatives of 28 states and union territories.

Javadekar was of the opinion that education is a national agenda which touches the lives of each and every individual. He referred to the fact that India has made a vital contribution to GDP and economic trade in the past. The main reason behind it was the presence of world-renowned educational institutions. Hence, there is a need to focus on improving learning outcomes and quality education.

Shri Vijay Goel, Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Ministers of State for HRD, Shri Amitabh Kant, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, CEO Niti Aayog and others attended the CABE meeting.

Vijay Goel pointed out that there is a need to integrate skills and education in such a manner that the education infrastructure can be optimally utilized for providing skill-based education. He said that the government has to align NSQF rationally so that the skills acquired can enable pursuit of higher education. Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey emphasized that the government must give more importance to Sports in education, that would also promote physical fitness of children.

Various issues were discussed in the CABE meeting. These included improving education levels of students, measures that can be taken to improve infrastructure in government schools based on suggestions received, the status of ‘No Detention’ policy under RTE and others.

It was clarified in the meet that the stakeholders must be accountable for improving learning outcomes and the task of training of untrained teachers must be completed within the next five years. Deputy CM and Education Minister of Telangana emphasized on girl child education and requested the government to look into the issues relating to the same.
