J&K to Get Rs. 325 Crore Worth New Medical College at Handwara
The upcoming Government Medical College in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir will be worth Rs. 325 crore which will be sponsored by the Union Government.
The Union government has given a nod for the establishment of a new government medical college in Handwara. This facility will be attached with the referral and district hospital Handwara which is in North Kashmir, an official spokesperson revealed on Sunday.
He further added that the upcoming institute in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir will be worth Rs 325 crore which will be sponsored by the Centre.

As per reports, Rs 115 crore out of the total amount will be expended in the building of academic and administrative facilities, Rs 60 crore will be spent on revamping the teaching faculty that is currently available at the hospital and Rs 80 crore is an outlay on residential and hostel accommodation for faculty and students.
Another amount of Rs 70 crore will be utilised for equipment and machinery for the new government medical college and the hospital, the spokesperson said.
He also highlighted that the state government has received a letter calling the sanction of the institute from the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
The Ministry had, in the past, asked the J&K government to set up new government medical colleges.
Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner of Health and Medical Education, stated that the introduction of these new medical colleges will help in enhancing the quality of healthcare services and facilities in the district. This will further bring in more medical professionals.
The launch of new medical institutes will encourage affordable medical and health education in the Union Territory. It would also create more jobs and improve the quality of healthcare in the government sector.
