JNU to Establish Centre for Study for North-East India
- JNU will set up a special centre to conduct research on the Northeast region of the country. The Northeastern centre at JNU will impart knowledge about north east culture.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is planning to establish a special centre for the study of the country’s North-East region. M Jagadish Kumar, Vice Chancellor, JNU said the university is working on the courses to be offered by the centre. The centre will have a multidisciplinary character and will have faculty members from different schools of JNU.
One of the professors of the varsity said that the new centre will focus on special kind of research projects related to the North-East. The centre will impart knowledge about the North-East culture and will increase the importance of the North-East with respect to international relations.
The academic council of the varsity has given approval for the same In June 2018 and they are working out on other details.

They will also introduce special courses with respect to the North-East culture. The main agenda is to promote M.Phil and Ph.D degrees. The committee will be formed for this purpose and professors of different schools will be hired by the centre.

A special advisory committee has worked on the proposal to set up the North-East centre. The university also has a special hostel for the North-East students and the new centre aims to promote an understanding of the region and encourage the students from different states of the country to take up research on the North-East states.
