Kerala Government Gives 70 Acre of Land to IIT Palakkad Free of Cost

The Government of Kerala has announced its decision to hand over 70 acres of land at no cost in Palakkad district of the state for establishing the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology (Palakkad)
A press release issued by the CM office stated that at a cabinet meeting chaired by Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of the state, decided to give 70.02 acres of land at Pithiest west village for the construction of the new IIT.

Presently, the new IIT has been functioning in a temporary campus. The land would be given to IIT free of cost. In the cabinet meeting, it has also been decided to halt all revenue recovery process on loans that the farmers took from different financial institutions until 31 March 2017.
After the land allotment, the construction work for the setting up of the permanent campus will soon begin. The construction work will be done be Central Public Work Department. The laboratories, hostels plus the main administrative complex will all be constructed in the first phase. Already, the Union Government has earmarked INR 63 crore for the developments in the first phase. The Kerala Government has also allocated INR 19 crore for the construction of the boundary walls of the institute.

It is one of the new IITs established in 2015 and monitored by IIT Madras. It offers a B.Tech Programme in the following four branches: Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Every year 120 students are enrolled for each stream.
