Khalsa College ties-up with International NGO to Offer Rare Martial Arts Course

Khalsa College has initiated a 50-seat course in rare martial arts. The course has been started in collaboration with a Dubai-based NGO named Sarbat Da Bhalla (SDB). A MoU was signed between Khalsa College and the NGO to facilitate this course.

The aim of the collaboration is to promote and teach rare martial arts such as Gatka so that vanishing traditional arts can be preserved for the generations to come. Under this initiative, close to 75% of the course fee will be sponsored by SBD NGO and the rest will be provided by the college.

Khalsa College will provide a diploma course and the duration of the course will be one-year. The course will cover academic and sports programme. Students who have passed their HSC exam will be eligible for admission to this course. However, other students can also apply for this course.

The college had initially announced the course in February 2016 and its initiative to encourage youth to take up Sikh martial art 'gatka' through academic and sports faculties. The college also announced that it will introduce a post graduate diploma course in 'gatka' under the memorandum of understanding with SDB.

Khalsa College is all set with the curriculum and will also help the students enrolled for the course to find jobs once they have successfully completed their diploma. The college said that they are addressing the rise in demand for Gatka coaches throughout the world and starting the course is just a step forward in that direction.
