KIIT University's Dutee Chand Acquires Spot in Rio Olympics

After achieving the qualification mark on June 25, 2016 at the 26th G. Kosanov Memorial Meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Dutee Chand, an ace sprinter from KIIT University has been successful in making her space in the Rio 2016 Olympics for the 100m women category.

The qualification mark for Rio Olympics has been set at 11.32 seconds and Dutee beat the same by 2 seconds.

Also, she crossed her own record of 11.33 seconds which she had earlier set at the National Federation Cup.

By doing this,she has also become the first Indian women to qualify for the coveted 100m event after they have started using qualification marks for shortlisting runners.

Earlier, in the year 1980, PT Usha had qualified for the same event during the Moscow Olympics.

On this happy occasion, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS congratulated her and said that the college has been encouraging her since last six years.

Also, Ranjit Nayak, a student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), secured qualification in Rio Olympics in archery event.

She was also congratulated by her Prof. Samanta who has always encouraged the students to take part in such events. Dutee said that she will perform even better than this during the Rio Olympics and will fulfill everyone’s expectations.
