Lovely Professional University (LPU) has successfully hosted 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC) from January 03 to 07, 2019. Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi inaugurated the 106th ISC.
Lovely Professional University (LPU) has successfully hosted 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC) from January 03 to 07, 2019. This year, the theme of the ISC was ‘Future India: Science & Technology’. Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi inaugurated the 106th ISC and delivered the inaugural address. Chancellor of LPU, Ashok Mittal was also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi expressed that he feels elated to be in the company of great scholars and scientists from India and abroad. He appreciated the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) for selecting ‘Future India: Science & Technology’ as the theme of 106th ISC.
Expressing his views on the theme, PM Modi mentioned that India’s true strength lies in connecting its innovation, science, and technology with its people. He recalled the contributions made by great scientists such as JC Bose, CV Raman and others despite minimum resources available during those days. PM Modi also spoke about technological advancements that India achieved in recent years.
PM Modi had a ‘Chai pe Charcha’ with three Nobel laureates Professor Duncan Haldane, Professor Avram Hershko and Professor Thomas Sudoph.

Nobel Laureates Bury Time Capsule on LPU Campus
As a part of 106th ISC, Nobel Laureates buried a Time Capsule on LPU campus to preserve it for 100 years. The Time Capsule buried on LPU campus represents a cross-section of technology in contemporary India. The Time Capsule shall remain buried for 100 years on LPU campus. The main objective for this initiative is to give a glimpse and idea of today’s technology in India for future generations. The Time Capsule was buried by three Nobel laureates present at ISC.
On this occasion, Chancellor of LPU, Ashok Mittal revealed that earlier, significant developments had taken place over a few decades while contemporary new tech capabilities are being added to the lives of human beings every few years. The Time Capsule buried at LPU campus would be a source of pride and wonder for the generation that digs it out in 2119, he hoped.

Nobel Laureates Inaugurate Children’s Science Congress at LPU
As a part of 106th ISC, Children’s Science Congress (CSC) was inaugurated at LPU campus three Nobel laureates Professor Duncan Haldane, Professor Avram Hershko and Professor Thomas Sudoph.
The Children’s Science Congress featured 120 novel projects researched and developed by schoolchildren and were selected by NCERT, DST and Punjab Council for Science & Technology. Children who created these projects gave an illustration to the visitors. LPU Chancellor, Ashok Mittal appreciated congratulated all school students for being the part of the mega event.
Union Minister of Law & Justice Inaugurates Science Communicators’ Meet at LPU
As a part of 106th ISC, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated a two-day meet ‘Vigyan Sancharak Sammelan (Science Commuters’ Meet)’. The two-day meet took place on January 05 & 06, 2019.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad indicated that the present age could be termed as the age of technology, information, and communication. The combination of these three aspects can lead to outstanding innovations. Technology should be used for human good. He concluded that two ITs, i.e., India’s Talent (IT) and Information Technology (IT) should jointly build India of Tomorrow (IT).
Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani Inaugurates Women’s Science Congress (WSC) at LPU
On the third day of 106th ISC, Union Textiles Minister, Smriti Irani inaugurated Women’s Science Congress. Addressing a large number of women scientists, educationalists and students at the event, Smriti Irani revealed that she had graced as a female and not as a minister. It is time for women to enter the world of science, engineering, and creation. She encouraged women to empower themselves and abolish gender gap existing in the society.
As a part of WSC, Smriti Irani launched a huge robotic structure ‘Metal Magna’ at the main entrance of LPU. She appreciated LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal for creating vibrancy at the campus.
The two-day WSC concluded on January 06, 2019. Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar graced the valedictory ceremony of 8th Women Science Congress. On this occasion, Mr. Javadekar inspired women to excel in science and technology.

LPU Students Create ‘Driverless Multi-Seated Solar Bus’
As a part of 106th ISC, LPU students created a ‘Driverless Multi-Seated Solar Bus’. Mr. Prakash Javadekar launched the bus. He also had a ride on this stellar innovation. He congratulated the students and varsity for coming up with an extraordinary innovation. Javadekar also praised the study environment at LPU and termed it as ‘lovely.
With the above events, 106th ISC at LPU concluded on January 07, 2019. The event turned out to be a grand success.
