Madras University to Accept Applications from Poor Students for Free Education
Madras University will accept applications from the poor students for studying degree programmes under the free education scheme in any of the aided and self-financed colleges affiliated to the university.
Madras University has started inviting applications from the economically poor students for pursuing degree programmes under the free education scheme in any of the aided and self-financed colleges affiliated to the Madras University.
The students from Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts can apply to study any degree course in 2019-20. The university will give preference to the economically backward students, children of daily wage labourers, agriculture labourers, orphans, widows and the first graduates from the university. The annual income of the family applying for admissions to the degree course under this scheme should be less than Rs.2,00,000.
The application forms are available on the university’s official website or students can get it from the PRO office from its Chepauk campus. The applications along with the photocopies of the certificates have to be submitted on or before May 8, 2019.

Madras University has been set up in 1857 and is known as one of the oldest universities in India. It has six campuses in the city and it offers more than 200 courses under 87 academic departments. The courses range from sciences, humanities, social sciences, medicine and management along with 109 affiliated colleges and more than 50 approved research institutes. It is also one of the topmost universities in India which offer distance education in different disciplines.
