NCERT conducted a National Achievement Survey last year. According to the survey, it was found that CBSE and ICSE the leading boards in the country and Haryana Board and Maharashtra Education Board have been lagging behind in terms of quality of education.

Earlier, it was found out that Haryana Board is lagging behind Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE).

Not being able to meet the curriculum requirements has caused stress as this has given rise to a serious debate on whether Maharashtra board will participate in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) which is due for 2018.

National Achievement Survey Findings:

According to the survey, it was found that Maharashtra board was found to be in the bottom 5 as the students scored only 246 of the total 400 in sciences.

It has been now decided that in order to be able to participate in PISA, students of the Maharashtra Board will have to perform better so that they stand equal to the other National boards.

One of the reasons pointed out for the poor performance of Maharashtra Board is the lack of application-oriented curriculum in the learning process.

Mr. Nanda Kumar (I.A.S), Secretary of the state, Maharashtra said that in order to increase the score to 300 in the next national survey, various norms will be introduced and improved upon in the next three years in Maharashtra.

Another solution given by academicians was to scrap the traditional methods of learning and promote creativity among the students and increase their learning capacity by making them think out of the box.
