Maharashtra to Make Marathi Mandatory in ICSE, CBSE Schools

Maharashtra government has taken a provision to make the Marathi language mandatory in CBSE and ICSE schools of the state. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is to meet a delegation regarding Marathi not being taught in the non-state board schools

The Chief Minister of the state informed that there is already a provision to teach the Marathi language in non-state boards. However, if there are some schools in the state who are not teaching the Marathi language to the students, strict action will be initiated against them.

Aside from this, he said that if necessary, the current law can be modified to guarantee that the Marathi language is taught in every school of the state. At present, the Marathi language is a compulsory subject up to class 8th in CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education)/ CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) & ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education).

Chief Minister responded to the question of Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe who just wanted to know the status of making Marathi mandatory in non-state board schools. She says several authors chose to hold protests on Monday at Azad Maidan in Southern Mumbai, requesting to make the Marathi language mandatory in all schools associated with non-state educational board schools.
