The Maharashtra state Department of Higher and Technical Education has declared that the final year students completing their studies from either of the deemed, self-financed and non-agricultural Universities may choose to not appear in their respective semester examinations. Students who are completing their final year studies in colleges affiliated to the universities mentioned above may also opt-out of their respective semester exams. The semester examination schedule is yet to be declared by the Department of Higher and Technical Education.

The number of students who are supposed to write the semester exams this year is 10,18,453 out of which 2,83,937 are students of professional courses and the remaining 7,34,516 are students who are pursuing non-professional courses from the aforementioned universities.

The Maharashtra Government had earlier cancelled all the end-semester examinations due to the lack of resources because of the exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. However, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor, decided to take the matters in his own hand and keep the Department of Higher & Technical Education out of it.

Only those final year students who do not have any backlogs can choose to skip the semester exams. The results will be calculated using the scores obtained by the students throughout the course period. A written undertaking has to be submitted by the students confirming they wish to skip the semester exams.

Those who wish to appear in the semester exams will also have to submit an undertaking and can appear in the exams, as and when the same is held.

No decisions regarding the fate of those with backlogs have been taken yet by the department. A decision will be made once all the Vice-Chancellors are consulted. The new academic session for non-fresh admission cases is going to commence soon.
