Seats for MBBS admission in Jharkhand 2021 have been increased from 580 seats. Banna Gupta, Minister of Health, Jharkhand revealed that the government had given nod to 3 medical colleges to accept admission for session 2021-2022. Medical Colleges at Hazaribagh, Palamu and Dumka were established in the year 2018.

Each college was permitted to accept admissions for 100 seats each, but the permission was revoked by the National Medical Commission owing to the irregularities in the college administration, dearth of proper infrastructure and teaching staff. As the National Medical Commission has lifted the ban, each of the six medical colleges in Jharkhand can accept admissions.

The number of MBBS seats in Jharkhand has been increased by over 51%. Earlier, only half of the medical colleges in Jharkhand were taking admissions. RIMS, Ranchi has 180 seats, MGM Jamshedpur has 100 seats and Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College, erstwhile PMCH Dhanbad has 50 seats. Out of these 15% seats were filled by the AIQ.

The restriction to accept new admission to Phulo-Jhano Medical College at Dumka was lifted in October 2020. But National Medical Commission had maintained the status quo for Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College at Hazaribagh and Medina Roy Medical College. After carefully reviewing the conditions at these colleges, NMC decided to lift the restrictions on these too for the forthcoming session of UGNEET 2021.
