The Ministry of Human Resource and Development is planning to bring faculty members from foreign universities under ‘Teach in IITs’. This decision has been taken to meet the deficit of faculty in IITs. It is a historical move made by MHRD to maintain global standards of education in IITs.

HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar proposed ‘Teach in IITs’ on the lines of international education fairs organised across global education centres. The primary motive is to attract the best faculty to the premier Indian engineering colleges. IITs initiative to draw international students and faculty did not go well so far. To improve global rankings, the IITs have to maintain better global standards in education.

‘Teach in IIT’ is a comprehensive strategy where potential faculty members across the world will be identified and invite them for teaching assignments in India. This includes easing out the cumbersome visa process and make an all effort to retain them.

The IITs are planning to increase the intake to one lakh by 2020. For this purpose, the institutes are planning to ensure the academic quality on par with the best institutes in the world. The HRD ministry will make a list of potential faculty from world’s top 500 universities
