Mizoram’s First Medical College to Open in August
- The new medical college at Mizoram has all the necessary facilities and well-established infrastructure as required by the Medical Council of India.
- It will initially capacitate 100 students out of which 85 seats are reserved for Mizo students.
Mizoram’s first medical college will be functional from August. The Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER) is located at Falkwan and the new institute has all the necessary facilities and well-established infrastructure according to the norms laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
L.Fimate, Director of MIMER said that MCI had granted them with the Permission Letter for establishing the college and it is when the Chief Minister of the state initiated the establishment of the institute. As per him, this is a great initiative for medical aspirants of the state. Now the medical aspirants will not be required to move out of the state as they will have sufficient opportunities within the state from now on.

He further added that Mizoram just gets 10 seats per year in Imphal's Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), which is a central college. Most of the medical aspirants of Mizoram find it very difficult to secure a place in the other medical colleges of the nation. The new medical college will initially capacitate 100 students out of which 85 seats are reserved for Mizo candidates. The institute will increase the intake from the next academic year.

Mr. Fimate was earlier serving as the Director in RIMS and he held rhe office for almost six years. He has also lead the Forensic Sciences division at J.N. Institute of Medical Sciences and RIMS, Imphal.
