The communication systems were cut and the fate of Kashmiri students also became uncertain as the educational institutes were shut down due to the chaos. The centre also bifurcated the former state of Jammu & Kashmir to the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Mr R Subramanyam, who is the higher education secretary of Ministry of HRD informed that NIT Srinagar will again commence its classes from 15th October.
