Prof Michael Becker based his presentation on two seminal texts

  • John Rawl’s “The Law of Peoples” (1999)
  • Immanuel Kant’s “Perpetual Peace” (1795)

He presented the key arguments of two political philosophers who are 200 years apart from each other and their philosophy still contextualised them in today’s world.

The speaker established Rawls and Kant as almost parallel thinkers on the matter of “international peace through law” and also between the nations. He ended the presentation by suggesting that Rawls, in fact, represents modernised Kantian thinking.
