PM Modi to Inaugurate IIT Bhubaneswar New Campus, Lay Foundation Stone for IISER Permanent Campus

Foundation stone for IISER Berhampur permanent campus will be laid by PM of India, Shri Narendra Modi on December 24, 2018. PM will also inaugurate new campus of IIT Bhubaneswar.

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus ofIIT Bhubaneswarand lay the foundation stone forIISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Berhampurpermanent campus on December 24, 2018. Governor and CM of Odisha will accompany the Prime Minister during these events.

IISER Berhampur Director, Mr. KVR Chary indicated that IISER Berhampur is the youngest IISER in India. The science research institute has been playing a vital role in promoting science education along with the highest quality of research. IISER aims to train young students to address the challenges of the nation. The permanent campus of IISER will produce a highly skilled scientific workforce for the nation who will serve the needs of the country, he added.

IIT Bhubaneswar Director, Mr. RV Rajkumar mentioned thatIIT Bhubaneswar moved to its permanent campusrecently. At present, the institute has 1,765 students across seven schools and 149 faculty members. IIT Bhubaneswar has established five centres of excellence in Pro-biotic, Bay of Bengal Coastal Observatory, Design Innovation, Energy Materials, and Augmented & Virtual Reality, he added.

So far, IIT Bhubaneswar received 101 consultancy projects worth Rs. 55.61 crore and 81 sponsors. IIT Bhubaneswar has published more than 1,000 research papers in refereed journals and filed 30 patents.

The Phase II expansion of IIT Bhubaneswar is underway which will be completed by January-December 2019. The expansion under Phase II will strengthen the existing facilities and infrastructure of the premier institute.

Mr. RV Rajkumar stated that PM of India would dedicate the permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar to the nation. The permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is spread over 936 acres of land. The Phase II expansion works will help the institute to accommodate additional 2,500 students. The Phase II construction work includes a gigantic lecture hall that can accommodate 6,500 students, 3 school buildings, a multiple-purpose hostel, 2 boys’ hostels, 1 girls’ hostel, auditorium and much more, he revealed.

The central government has sanctioned Rs. 850 crore for the Phase II expansion work at IIT Bhubaneswar.
