Post-Matric Scholarship for SC, ST and OBC will Continue: Bihar CM

Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar revealed that post-matric scholarships would continue for students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), Extremely Backward Class (EBC) and Backward Class (BC). Therefore, the students belonging to these categories can pursue higher studies.

He further indicated that the scholarship would be provided only after thorough verification so that only genuine students who have enrolled in various educational institutions will get scholarships. He pointed that some of the students who have enrolled in bogus educational institutions also availed scholarship earlier. Therefore, a proper mechanism has been set up to check the institutions and verify the applications.

Mr. Nitish Kumar further clarified that there have been some misgivings with regard to post-matric scholarships and it will continue until the completion of academic session 2016-17. On the other hand, the students who have been availing scholarships will continue to avail them until the completion of their education.

He further revealed that the government is planning to carry out a study and review regarding ‘Student Credit Card’ facility after the completion of the academic session of 2017-18. The main objective is to figure out whether the students belonging to BC, EBC, SC and ST have benefitted from the scheme. The students will have the chance to choose either post-matric scholarship or ‘Student Credit Card’. However, students will not be allowed to apply for both schemes.

He clarified that the government has launched a universal credit card scheme for students and it is completely different from the education loan that is provided by banks.
