The Human Resource Development Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar, recently revealed the five pillars or basis of the New Education Policy. These are:

  • Accessibility
  • Affordability
  • Equity
  • Quality
  • Accountability

Javadekar added all these pillars are imperative to the NEP (New Education Policy) as the country needs to look forward to a value added education system that incorporates sports activities and Yoga, which is now accepted all around the world.

While addressing the gathering at the silver jubilee celebrations of Pragna Bharati in Hyderabad on 8th April 2017, he also stressed on the importance and significance of innovation in the education system. He said that the concept of innovation is changing lives at a very fast pace and that can ensure a sustainable way of prosperity. A testament to that is Centre’s initiative to come up with ‘Uchtar Avishkar Yojana’ and ‘Hackathon’.

Other efforts of the Government:

  • Setting-up of 20 world-class universities in the country that will include ten in private sector and ten in the public sector.
  • Global Research Interactive Network or GRIN programme is also in the launching stages. This will provide scholarship opportunities to students and will also enable them to work with reputed foreign laboratories and later return to India for further research.
  • The Higher Education Finance Agency was also set up by the government that is aiming to raise about Rs. 20,000 crore in the next eighteen months which will be used to create good infrastructural and academic facilities, also to reduce brain drain.

The Government of India embarked onto a time-bound grassroots consultative process basis which the HRD Ministry reached out to individuals all over the country while holding direct consultations with almost 2.75 lakh people and also took inputs from the citizens in an online format in order to enhance the formulation of the New Education Policy.
