Professor Errol D’Souza Takes up Office as New Director of IIM Ahmedabad
- Professor Errol D'Souza has been appointed as the Director of IIM Ahmedabad.
- He succeeded Ashish Nanda after heading the office as Dean of Faculty at the prestigious institute.
Professor Errol D'Souzahas taken up the charge as the director of the prestigiousIIM Ahmedabad. Professor D'Souza took up office as the interim Director from September 2, 2017, and started managing the administrative tasks at the institute.
A professor of Economics at theIIM Ahmedabad, Errol D'Souza was also the Dean of Faculty. He pursued a degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Mumbai and was awarded hisPh.D.as aNationalResearch FellowofUniversity Grants Commissionfrom theJawaharlal Nehru University.
Professor D’Souza was appointed on Wednesday, January 31, 2017, just a few hours before theIIM Actcame into effect. The act will enable the IIMs the authority to appoint the directors of respective institutes as well as chairpersons of the board of governors.

Before starting out at IIM Ahmedabad, Prof D'Souza has held the office as the IFCI Chair Professor at theUniversity of Mumbai, a Visiting Scholar atColumbia University, Honorary Senior Fellow atNational University of Singapore’s Institute of South Asian Studies and as a Visiting Professor at ILO’s Turin School of Development.
He has also been part of the academic committees of the Indian Council of Social Science Research and University Grants Commission. Apart from this, he has also worked with theReserve Bank of Indiaand the Planning Commission of India in various capacities.

Prof D'Souza succeeded Ashish Nanda, the previousDirector of IIM-A, who had put down his papers in April 2017 before the end of his term. Nanda was a former professor ofHarvard Law Schooland was also the first professor from an overseas institute to take up office as the Director of an IIM.
