The Rajasthan University (RU) will not be closing its Centre of Mass Communication (CMC) as declared by the Vice Chancellor. R K Kothari, the Vice-Chancellor of Rajasthan University, announced that the Centre of Mass Communication will be continued in this academic session as well.

There were speculations made earlier about the centre being shut down as the only teacher of the department, the former head of CMC, Professor Sanjeev Bhanawat, had retired. Moreover, the Centre of Mass Communication is being bifurcated as a decision has been made by the state government to revive the Haridev Joshi University of Journalism (HJUJ).

The Haridev Joshi University of Journalism was merged with the Centre for Mass Communication with the courses and teachers of HJUJ being a part of CMC since 2017.

The Haridev Joshi University of Journalism was set up in 2012 by the Congress government which was led by Ashok Gehlot. It was shut down about two years ago and its two courses of MA in Electronic Media and MA in Public Relations have been running under the Centre of Mass Communication of Rajasthan University since then.

Now that it has been decided that HJUJ will be revived, the courses and staff of the university will not be a part of Rajasthan University any longer. Consequently, this will leave the Centre of Mass Communication with just one course, Master in Journalism and Mass Communication, and no teacher.

The Vice-Chancellor, R K Kothari, said that the students who are presently studying in the first and second semester of the university will be allowed to study their third and fourth semesters there as well. They will get their degrees from the Rajasthan University itself. However, from the upcoming academic year, only the traditional course of Master in Journalism and Mass Communication will be continued at the centre.
