The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has declared that six of its Schools and special centres will organise their end semester examinations through the online mode. This step will be taken by the university because of the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All of these six schools are the science schools of JNU and they will conduct their online end semester exams by the month of June 2020.

It was in the news earlier that several schools had requested authorities not to conduct the exams online because some students face a lack of internet availability and connectivity. All the six schools have replied to this request saying that some relaxation will be given to such students. Seven Schools and Special Centres of JNU have decided to hold their exams in the offline mode in the month of July when the university is scheduled to reopen. Almost all the Schools of the central university have announced that the mid-semester exams will have to be taken either online or through the method of online assignments.

Pramod Kumar, the Registrar of JNU, had declared on April 22, 2020, Wednesday, that the decision of conducting the examinations and its mode has been left on the Chairpersons and Deans of the Schools and Special Centres of Jawaharlal Nehru University. The end semester exams for various courses were to be conducted based on their decision. The Schools that will be conducting online end semester examinations have been listed below:

  • School of Environmental Sciences (SES)
  • School of Biotechnology (SBT)
  • School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (SC&IS)
  • School of Physical Sciences (SPS)
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Management & Entrepreneurship (ABVSME)
  • School of Engineering

In a statement given by the Special Centre for North-East studies while commenting on the examination, it has been said that the exams must be conducted in the last week of May 2020 and the method of evaluation will be left to the course in-charge.
