Sri Venkateswara University Likely to Discontinue Dual Degree Courses
- College of Engineering – Sri Venkateswara University is planning to discontinue B.Tech & M.Tech dual engineering course from 2019 academic year onwards.
- At present, 500 students are pursuing dual engineering course at SVU.
College of Engineering – Sri Venkateswara Universityis planning to discontinueB.Tech & M.Tech dual engineering coursefrom this academic year onwards due to constant disputes between regular engineering students and dual degree engineering students. The varsity has approachedAP State Council for Higher Educationto take a final decision on discontinuing dual engineering course. The varsity has stooped the counselling process for the admission to dual engineering course for the academic session 2018-19.
SVU conducts a separate entrance test for the admission to dual engineering course while admissions for regular engineering courses are based onAP EAMCETexam. Students pursuing regular engineering courses pointed out that the varsity has been offering dual engineering course admission to non-merit students. On the other hand, the faculty members ofthe College of Engineering – SVUhave been criticising the varsity on running the dual engineering course in self-financing mode.

At present, 500 students are pursuing dual engineering course at SVU. The varsity has not been conducting classes for dual engineering students in separate blocks due to lack of infrastructure. Recently, SVU has reduced the intake of dual engineering course from 120 to 40 and madeJEE/EAMCETmandatory for the admission.

However, the lack of infrastructure and constant student clashes has forced the varsity to discontinue dual engineering course. The counselling process that is scheduled to begin on July 20, 2018, has been postponed until the final decision.
