The students stood fourth in the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle called Matsya 4.0 in the national level competition that was conducted by NIOT. Matsya 4.0 is used to grab objects, differentiate colours and shapes as well as locate sound sources. The team comprised of students from all the departments. The name of the team is AUV.

AUV has been working on underwater vehicles since 2011. They have made four vehicles so far, and the fifth underwater vehicle is underway. Team leader of AUV IIT-B Varun Mittal revealed that the first model of the underwater vehicle was basic and it just moved and rotated. Later, they worked consistently to upgrade the model and had come up new models every year. However, Matsya 4.0 is upgraded on par with the latest technology.

He further added that Matsya 5.0 would be more dynamic and faster than Matsya 4.0. It will have a surface covering which none of the other Matsya vehicles had. He expressed that they faced the biggest challenge due to Cyclone Vardah in Chennai and the location of the competition has been shifted to a private pool at the last moment. The sensors did not function properly in the shallow pools, and they took it as a challenge and in half day of practice, they managed to win in the competition.
