On July 20, 2018, the Supreme Court of India has ordered a stay on Madras HC order that directed CBSE to award grace marks to NEET-UG 2018 Tamil examinees. CBSE approached the apex court challenging the order of Madras HC on awarding 196 marks to NEET-UG Tamil examinees . Since CBSE approached the Supreme Court on July 16, 2018 , the Round 2 seat allocation results of NEET-UG AIQ counselling put on hold.

On July 10, 2018, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court ordered CBSE to award 196 marks to 49 questions in NEET-UG Tamil question paper. The court indicated that the CBSE should award grace marks to compensate the 49 translation errors in NEET Tamil question paper .

Recently, the government informed that implementing the high court order would lead to chaos, as it will push a large number of students out of the current merit list. Similarly, awarding 196 additional marks for NEET Tamil examinees will result in some candidates scoring more than the total marks in NEET-UG 2018 exam.

On the other hand, CBSE clearly mentioned in the NEET-UG 2018 information bulletin that candidates opting for regional languages will be provided bilingual question paper. In case of any ambiguity in the translation, the English version will be treated of final. Therefore, it is not possible to award grace marks, CBSE confirmed.

The further delay in the final decision on the issue will delay the medical admission process. For the latest updates on this news, stay tuned to CollegeDekho.
