In an attempt to restrict ragging, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will be organizing a national-level film-making competition. Through this event, the UGC will also engage the students to debate regarding the hazards of ragging.

A letter was issued by the UGC to the Vice-Chancellors of various universities on Friday, September 8, 2017, asking them to introduce a National University Film Making Competition to spread the awareness regarding ragging among students.

According to the letter issued by the Additional Secretary of UGC, Dr. Pankaj Mittal, the universities and higher education institutes can motivate their students to develop short films or documentaries on the issue of ragging.

It was also mentioned in the letter that the documentary or films can be 5 to 10 minutes long. An expert committee will be appointed to select the three best films among all the entries submitted by participating universities. Prize money has also been declared for the winners.
