In a recent notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), it has stated that it will revamp the syllabus of B.Sc, B.A, M.A, M.Sc and Ph.D. Psychology course. Stating the reasons for the move, the higher education regulator pointed that the existing curriculum/ syllabus of Psychology course is not fulfilling the societal needs and is not rooted in the national ethos. Revising the syllabus will help achieve required objectives and outcomes of the course, it added.

The detailed revised structure of Psychology syllabus is available on the official website of UGC. It has been revised based on the recommendations and suggestions of an Expert Committee, clarified UGC.

According to the observations made by the committee, the Psychology course structure that was being followed and taught in the higher learning institutes was neither keeping pace with the latest developments nor fulfilling societal needs. The committee also looked into different aspects of teaching and research besides drawing upon considerable ways of developing a vibrant model of syllabi for different levels.

Psychology is among the many popular courses that drive attraction as well as competition from students interested in seeking admission in top universities like the University of Delhi, JNU etc.
