The School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (abbreviated as SEST) of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), which is also known as Hyderabad Central University, has been awarded a bilateral collaborative research project. The project is Indo-German and it is under the 2 + 2 scheme for working on the development of spring steels that are lightweight. These steels are for automotive applications by the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre.

The School of Engineering Sciences and Technology will be forming a collaboration with JSW Steels, which is a giant steel manufacturer. SEST and JSW Steels will be represented as the academic and industrial partners from India while from the German side, Muhr und Bender KG (MUBEA) and the University of Siegen (USI) will be represented as the industrial and academic partners respectively. This was told by a press release.

JSW Steels would be creating the most appropriate steel grades that will be required for the lightweight automotive springs. It will work in continuous collaboration with the University of Hyderabad and the University of Siegen. As soon as the targeted mechanical properties and optimal microstructure are met, Muhr und Bender KG (MUBEA) will proceed with the manufacturing of the springs for commercial applications.

The School of Engineering Sciences and Technology has been involved in some high-end fundamental research work ever since its inception. This research work would eventually be resulting in an end product. The research in this project will be given a grant for the next three years that will amount to Rs. 1.52 crores.

Dr. Koteswara Rao V Rajulapati, who is an Associate Professor at SEST, will be coordinating from the Indian side as the Principal Investigator from the University of Hyderabad.
