Empowering Young Minds: The Millet Lab Hosts Its Largest Summer Internship Cohort - The Millet Lab, a vibrant research group under the Repository of Tomato Genomics Resources, Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, is abuzz with activity this summer. From May to June 2025, the lab is hosting its largest-ever cohort of 17 student interns, marking a significant milestone in its continued commitment to research and training. Their participation reflects both the national reach and academic reputation of the Millet Lab. Renowned for its advanced research in millet genetics and genomics, the lab—led by Dr. M. UNESCO Workshop on Rethinking Masculinities in Community Radio - The workshop titled 'Transforming MENtalities: Engaging Men and Boys through Community Radio' was held from May 19 to 20, 2025, co-organized by UNESCO’s South Asia Regional Office and the University of Hyderabad. The workshop aimed to empower community radio stations to engage men and boys as allies in advancing gender equality. Participants discussed the complexities of masculinity, patriarchy, and social norms, and brainstormed ideas for radio programs that address these themes. The workshop included sessions led by experts such as Dr. Shraddha Chickerur and Dr. Ravi Verma, focusing on the portrayal of masculinities in media and the importance of involving fathers in discussions about gender roles. Seventeen participants from nine community radio stations across India attended the event, which will lead to the development of radio programming in local languages.

Introducing a New NPTEL Course: The Literature of Climate Crisis - The University of Hyderabad is pleased to announce a new course on the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform, titled “The Literature of Climate Crisis,” offered by Prof. Pramod K Nayar, Department of English. This course focuses on multiple literary genres – poetry, fiction, memoirs, graphic novels – from around the world, works that address the environmental crisis since the 1990s. It explores the aesthetics, form, and politics of these texts. The course includes modules on wilderness and the post-natural, extinction and rewilding, multispecies writing, habits and habitation, and environmental justice. The course is designed for Literary Studies scholars and anyone interested in environmental literature and the climate crisis. It contributes significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiative of the University of Hyderabad and fulfills one of the mandates of the UNESCO Chair. Prof. Chennupati Jagadish Elected as Fellow of the Royal Society, UK - Prof. Chennupati Jagadish, Institution of Eminence Chair Professor at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), UK. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Prof. Jagadish’s outstanding contributions to nanotechnology, semiconductor optoelectronics, and science policy. As a renowned expert in his field, Prof. Jagadish has made seminal contributions to the development of new types of LEDs, lasers, and nanodevices for optoelectronic applications. His work has been widely recognized, with over 800 publications and nearly 38,000 citations. Prof. Jagadish is currently Emeritus Professor at the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering at the ANU Research School of Physics and Engineering, Australian National University. He is also the first person of Indian origin to be appointed as President of the Australian Academy of Science. In addition to his academic achievements, Prof. Jagadish and his wife, Dr. Vidya, have contributed to social causes through the Chennupati and Vidya Jagadish endowment fund, which provides students and researchers from developing countries with opportunities to pursue collaborative research at the ANU Research School of Physics and Engineering. The University of Hyderabad campus is spread over 2300 acres of land, and is located at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. It is home to over 16 schools and special centres, classroom complexes, student, professor, and residential staff quarters, a 24-hour healthcare centre, and an administration block. Furthermore, the UoH campus has a sports field for indoor and outdoor games, a gym, an ATM, a library, a mess, and retail facilities. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Library is named after Mrs Indira Gandhi, the late Prime Minister of India. On October 21, 1988, the late Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Vice President of India, unveiled the library building. There are thousands of books, serials, theses, dissertations, project reports, e-journals, entrance exam papers, and periodicals in the library. Students can access all of this online; they only need to visit to the University of Hyderabad official website and enter their login id and password. On weekdays, the library is open from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, and on weekends, holidays, and public holidays, it is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The campus has 23 hostels that house around 5000 male and female students. University of Hyderabad hostels are located on north and south campuses to allow students to be closer to their study/research departments. The university's reservation system applies to the hostel assignment process as well. Each UoH hostel has one or two wardens, security guards, and wi-fi facilities. 9 out of 23 hostels have dining facilities as well.
University of Hyderabad has sports, games, and yoga facilities for the university community to participate in various games, sports, and fitness activities. The Central Tools Laboratory (CIL) is a central facility equipped with cutting-edge advanced analytical instruments to serve university academics and researchers. It was founded in 1979 and provided SEM, Confocal Microscopy, Spectroscopy (X-Rays, UV-VIS-IR), Spin Resonance Studies, and Vibrating Magnetometer equipment.
