The Uttar Pradesh Government will not open new engineering colleges as 62% seats in various technical institutes and colleges of the state are lying vacant. Ashutosh Tandon, Education Minister said that since 62% seats in engineering colleges are lying vacant, the government has decided not to open any new engineering institutes in the state. The main aim of the state is to fill up the vacant seats rather than opening new colleges.

One of the main reason behind such large number of seats lying vacant is that the previous government did not pay much attention to the infrastructure and other important facilities while opening the new engineering colleges. Due to which a large number of students backed out from joining these technical institutes. Poor infrastructure and lack of basic facilities just added to the number of vacant seats. As of now, the state government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore for introducing new facilities in these colleges and for developing infrastructural facilities.

However, the state government is working towards maintaining the quality of education in these technical institutes. As no new faculty was appointed in these institutes since 2007 which just led to the poor quality of education and forcing students to join other institutes and colleges out of the state.

The government is also working towards linking teacher’s database with Aadhar Card so that the name of a teacher cannot be used in multiple colleges. They also linked the scholarships with Aadhar to avoid any confusion and chaos.
