UPES: New HR Strategy must be Devised for Oil and Gas Sector

The University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) organized the 15th Oil & Gas HR Round Table in Mumbai that was attended by the Leading officials of the industry. The topic of discussion was the new strategies that need to be taken up in the HR training of the Indian oil and gas companies.
Referring to the downturn in the industry, all the speakers were of the opinion that there is a need to evolve new methods of training, educating and retraining the employees so that they can adapt to the challenges that have come up in the industry and propose effective solutions for them.

Utpal Ghosh, UPES CEO, and President set up the stage with the discussion that there is a need to devise a new HR strategy to attract talented students and train them so that the companies can further flourish.

To enhance the employability of the students, academia and industry must work together to ensure that students gain practical knowledge along with theory, said Utpal Ghosh, CEO and President of UPES.
Vice-President of Schlumberger Asia Services Ltd, Jayant Malhotra said that in order to prepare the employees for the upswing in the industry, they must be provided structured training and development programs at all levels.
Specialized skills training must be provided to the workforce so they can deal with challenges effectively and manage adverse situations by guiding talent at the orientation level, said President of Refinery Business, Reliance Industries Ltd, P. Raghavendran.
