Calcutta University (CU), one of India’s oldest and most reputed universities, is grappling with the shortage of attendance amongst students. Due to students being unable to achieve the minimum attendance requisite, CU has decided to implement the Choice-Based-Credit-System or CBCS in Humanities and Science departments in undergraduate programmes.

Most of India’s premier universities and colleges have already shifted to the CBCS method and have praised the CBCS system of assessment. Essentially, CBCS is a programme through which students can choose from an array of prescribed courses segregated as Core, Elective and Minor or Soft Skill courses. The best part about CBCS is that students can pace their learning in this system and are graded basis a credit system.
