After getting postponed twice, JEE Main 2020 exam date has been scheduled to September 01-06. The exam has been postponed twice due to the rapid increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. While there have been speculations that the situation may get worse in the coming months, there are doubts among the students whether JEE Main 2020 scheduled from September 01 will be conducted or postponed again. Postponing the exam may not be possible again, and it may be cancelled if Covid-19 cases increase. All state-level entrance exams have been postponed until September.

While some students are demanding the postponement of the exam, many of them are tired with this postponement and requesting the government for no further delay in conducting the exam. Students are not demanding the cancellation of the exam. Parents body approached the Supreme Court to ensure no further delay or postponement of JEE Main exam.

Disclaimer: This is just experts’ analysis/ option whether there will be a chance for the cancellation of JEE Main or not.

Are there any Chances for Cancelling JEE Main September Exam 2020?

Admission to NITs, IITs, IIITs and GFTIs is an important aspect, and cancelling JEE Main will affect these admissions. Due to the brand value of these institutes, the competition for admission is high. Granting admission in these institutes on the basis of Class 12th marks may not be possible. If the situation in India gets worse due to Covid-19 cases and non-availability of vaccine, the government will be left with no alternative except to cancel the exam.

What will be the Admission Criteria if JEE Main is Cancelled?

If the government decides to cancel JEE Main, IITs will come with an alternative option, as conducting JEE Advanced will not be possible. If Class 12th marks are to be considered, marks scored in core subjects marks will become the criteria. Core subjects are Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. On what criteria the candidates will be shortlisted shall be decided by IITs. Joint Admissions’ Board (JAB) will soon discuss alternative admission process if JEE Main & Advanced are cancelled.

In all, the chances for cancelling JEE Main September 2020 exam are less. The exam may be conducted with all safety measures, as NTA is also increasing the exam centres. On the other hand, many students work hard to achieve a good percentile in JEE Main. Therefore, the government will not let these students’ preparation go in vain.
