Madras HC to Hear Plea Regarding Re-Allocation of NEET Exam Centres

NEET-UG 2018 is scheduled to be conducted by CBSE on May 06, 2018. CBSE has already released the NEET-UG admit card on its official website. Over the past few days, the board has been facing criticism over far-off exam centres. At this juncture, a petition was filed in High Court of Madras seeking re-allotment of NEET exam centres. The petitioner filed a plea in the court that the CBSE must re-allocate exam centres for Tamil Nadu students who were assigned centres outside the state.

Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose posted the matter for hearing on April 26, 2018, Thursday before a bench headed by Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh.

The petition was filed by an advocate, Mr. Kalimuthu Mylavan. The petitioner alleged that the CBSE had assigned exam centres against the preference of the candidates. Many students will have to travel to another state to give the exam. While filling the online application for NEET-UG 2018, students were allowed to give three exam centres as preferences within their state. However, CBSE has not assigned exam centres as per the given preferences. Therefore, CBSE must take steps to re-allocate the exam centres, he submitted.

The petitioner further pointed that candidates from Southern districts of Tamil Nadu had been allocated exam centres in Kerala. Most candidates from the Southern part of the state were from rural areas and economically backward classes. It is very difficult for these students to afford for their stay in other states, he explained.
