50 Startups Visit IIT Kharagpur to Hire Interns

50 Startups Visit IIT Kharagpur to Hire Interns

Around 50 startups visited Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur as a part of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which was held in the first week of February. These startups also recruited some of the students for internship. Around 80 institutes and 1,500 students across the country participated in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit. The summit was organised by the Entrepreneur Cell of IIT Kharagpur.

Mr. Chakit Chawada, Assistant Manager, Entrepreneur Cell, IIT Kharagpur revealed that it was a great opportunity for the students who have plans to start their own ventures. Being an intern in a startup provides an experience of work as well as teaches how to build an organization from the scratch.

One of the officials explained that Supervasi is one such startup which works towards improving lives of tribal people. It is in search of 1,000 engineers to work as interns. Therefore, it participated in the summit and hired interns. Similarly, Torch-It is also one of the startups that is working with an aim to ease the life of the visually impaired.

The developer of the unique torch for visually impaired explained that their device replaces the white cane. Through the handheld device, the visually impaired can know the distance of the objects around them. The device is equipped with distance sensors that vibrate alerting the visually impaired. To improve its reach and for its development, the director of Torch-It is looking for interns who can help the company in developing and branding the device. He revealed that they have already received an order for 2,000 pieces and the production will start next month.

IIT Kharagpur provides an option to the students to opt out of placements and start their own individual ventures. These students can come back to take part in placements after two years if they do not succeed in making their ventures successful. This is also known as deferred placements.
