Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur which created a wave in the field of engineering, medical technology, management and law education in India is now venturing into the domain of quality. The principal aim of the institute is to improve the trinity of Process, Planet and People (3Ps). The target areas are Human, Engineering and Natural Systems. For this purpose, IIT Kharagpur will start a School on Quality and Reliability (Q & R). It will be the first school of its kind in India.

The School on Q&R will be interdisciplinary. Faculty members, as well as students from various disciplines, will be a part of Q&R. Prof. P. Chakrabarti, Director of IIT Kharagpur, revealed that apart from tradition Q&R areas, the School will focus on various application domains related to 3Ps. The objective of establishing School on Q&R is to improve the quality of life for the citizens of India and develop quality conscious global citizens.
He further indicated that School of Q&R would collaborate with the other academic units of IIT Kharagpur and offer mission-mode programmes and academic programmes in the area of Quality and Reliability. The outcome of these programmes will be social transformation.

The school will also act as a hub of Intellectual Property in Quality, and it will become a trendsetter like many other initiatives taken up by IIT Kharagpur. Alumni of the institute will play a significant role in supporting the initiative.
