Breaking all the age bars, CI Sivasubramanian, the oldest student from IGNOU received his master’s degree on February 17, 2020, at the IGNOU convocation. Addressing the amazement, CI Sivasubramanian said that the family’s responsibility always came as a hurdle to pursue his ambition. However, at the age of 84, he finally got the opportunity to pursue his master’s degree from IGNOU.
Sivasubramanian received his degree at the convocation in public administration and along with many others, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also praised his ambition and desire of achievement. HRD minister even called him a 93 years old youngster. While talking to Ramesh Pokhriyal, Sivasubramanian told that after finishing with the school in the year 1940, he wanted to pursue higher studies for which he would have to shift to Chennai or Trichy. However, his parents fell ill for which he had to stay back and take care of them. So, he started working.

Later, after he and his family shifted to Delhi, he started working as a clerk in the Ministry of Commerce. Thereafter, he attempted various departmental exams and kept raising his ranks. Finally, at the age of 84, he decided to fulfil his dream of graduating after getting retirement from his duties as a director of the ministry.
After Sivasubramanian came to know that there is no age restriction to pursue master’s in IGNOU, he applied for the admission. Thereafter, his routine was waking up at 5 AM and getting busy with his studies. Meanwhile, he is looking for some short online courses to pursue in future.
