AAP Government to Provide Financial Assistance to 100 Dalit Students Overseas

In an unprecedented attempt to provide financial support to the minority students of Delhi, the AAP Government has released a new scheme. The Government will be giving INR 10 - 20 lakhs to the meritorious students to study abroad. 

Financial Assistance to Dalit Students by AAP Government

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government launched a new scheme on 29th August 2019. In order to financially support the higher education of Dalit students overseas in Delhi, the AAP Government did the unprecedented by introducing a new scheme. According to the scheme, the overseas higher education of about 100 Dalit students will be funded by the Government of Delhi.

AAP Government Financial Scheme Dalit Students Eligibility

As per the SC/ST Minister of the Government of Delhi, Rajendra Pal Gautam, candidates who fall under the following categories are eligible to avail the benefits of the scheme.

  • Exemplary students who hold an offer made by foreign universities can apply for the scheme.

  • Students should be pursuing M.Phil, Ph.D., M.Tech, LLM or any other higher education courses in the field of Engineering, Management, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Social Science, Humanities and Fine Arts.

  • The applicants must qualify as residents of Delhi.

  • The maximum age to apply for the scheme is 30 years.

  • The family income of the students should not be more than INR 8 lakhs per annum.

AAP Government Financial Scheme Dalit Students Total Number

  • A total of 100 students will be provided with funds to completed their higher education abroad under this scheme.
  • Only one child from the same guardian/s or parent/s will be entitled to the scheme.

  • To prove this, candidates will be required to provide a self-certification.

AAP Government Financial Scheme Dalit Students Fund Value and Duration of the Scheme

  • For a two-year course, the government will be providing financial assistance to the eligible students of up to INR 10 lakhs.

  • For a four-year programme, the assistance will be of up to INR 20 lakhs.

AAP Government Financial Scheme Dalit Students Implementation Year of the Scheme

  • The Scheme is intended to be implemented from the financial year of 2019-2020.

  • The Scheme will cost INR 5 crore to the exchequer.

Discussing the Scheme, Rajendra Paul Gautam, SC/ST Minister, Delhi said that studying abroad is a dream of many students. But, due to financial constraints, many meritorious SC/ST students belonging to low-income groups remain deprived of the opportunity. This scheme will motivate students to pursue their dreams of studying abroad, he said.
