Student body Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) hosted a one-day discussion on Engineering examination-Drawbacks and solution on the Department of Technology at the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) campus at which it was summarised that the exam department needs to adapt few desperate measures in order to improve its efficiency.
The event was organised on the backdrop of recent issues and irregularities faced by the exam department of the Shivaji University in the October 2015 semester exam results, which affected thousands of students.
Amit Vaidya, District president, ABVP, said that the concerned officials of the pre-exam duties, exam duties and post-exam duties were called in for the discussion. It is easier to criticise the university than to understand what actually is affecting its working and that is what they got the chance to learn at this discussion.
He added that the slow paper assessment and the unavailability of faculties for the assessment work too was discussed where it was learnt from the officials that many faculties avoid the assessment work citing excuses. We have suggested the university to increase the remuneration for the assessment work as one of the measures for increasing the participation of faculty members, he said.
Statement -
"We learnt from the discussion that there is a severe communication gap between the main stakeholders of the university. The colleges, the exam department's administration and the students are equally responsible for the errors that appear frequently in the university working due to the communication gap"
