HRD Ministry to Provide Admission Concession to Kashmiri Pandits

HRD Ministry comes up with admission concessions of 10% in the cutoffs for the Kashmiri Migrants and Kashmiri Pandits living in the valley to pursue higher education in the upcoming academic session of 2020-21. 

HRD Ministry grants admission concessions to Kashmiris

Ministry of Human Resource and Development announces admission concessions for Kashmiri Pandits living in the valley as well as for Kashmiri Migrants for the upcoming academic session of 2020-21. According to reports, the concession is to be up to 10% from the set eligibility requirements. Earlier the concessions were only given to the Kashmiri migrants but now, Kashmiri pandits living in the valley are also taken under the umbrella of admission concession.

HRD Ministry has been receiving various pleas to extend the quota of Kashmiri migrants to non-migrants from the valley. After severe discussion between the Ministry and Jammu and Kashmir Government, the decision of expanding the admission concession reach came into play. As of the latest updates, wards of Kashmiri Pandits can enjoy the benefits of the admission quota for higher education in all parts of the country. Implementation of the same will be seen in upcoming admissions 2020.

Latest updates on the matter state that, students will be getting a ten per cent relaxation from the set cut off for every course offered by institutes of higher education in India. Also, to maintain the balance of Kashmiri quota seats with other category seats, a 5% increment in the number of seats per course is to be made by the University administration. Lastly, at least one seat is to be reserved for Kashmiri students in the merit quota of Technical and Professional Higher Education Institutes of India.

Also, Kashmiri Hindu families or Kashmiri Pandits, living in the valley have to submit their domicile at the time of admission to the university authorities to avail benefits of the concession. However, this condition is not there for Kashmiri Migrants, they can take admission without the domicile certificate.

Higher Education institutes are yet to react to this new clause of the HRD Ministry.
